The Fungicidal Effect of Essential Oils of Fennel and Hops against Fusarium Disease of Pea

Modern integrated farming systems encourage the search for alternative (non-chemical), highly effective methods of plant protection. In this study, fungistatic effect fennel essential oil (FEO) and hop (HEO) on fungal growth their ability to treat Fusarium wilt was investigated. The study conducted in vitro pot experiments. severity infection assessed by disease index (DI), presence culmorum gDNA (qPCR) anatomical analyses infected tissue using an optical (OM) scanning electron microscope (SEM). Laboratory showed that FEO inhibits mycelial fungi (F. avenaceum, F. culmorum, equiseti, oxysporum, poae, solani, sporotrichioides, tricinctum), Botrytis cinerea Cylindrocarpon destructans more effectively than HEO. at a concentration 2000 ppm completely inhibited poae B. cinerea. Both oils reduced caused pea plants (DI, OM, SEM). qPCR shows both are also able reduce synthesis trichothecenes tissues plants. results suggest HEO represent broad spectrum bio-fungicidal agent can be applied directly 500 ppm, greatly reducing level infection.
